A SPELL IN THE WILD
Witches are Now! They don't just belong in the pages of history books any more.
As the world grows ever more complicated and we face ecological, political, social and global health crises, witchcraft is making a glorious comeback.
Way back in the day, witches were tortured, burned and shunned from society, so the last thing any woman would have admitted to is being one. There was certainly no kudos attached to a career in sorcery.
Fortunately, things have moved on a bit since then and in this delightful book, 'A Spell in the Wild', author Alice Tarbuck explores what it means to be a witch today.
The author describes what she practises as ‘intersectional, accessible’ witchcraft . Month by month, she takes us through everyday magic in her book. As she says, 'Magic isn't somewhere else. It isn't a series of distant rituals, ancient texts and expensive courses. Magic is turning to the world and seeing it and knowing we are indistinguishable from it, in all our embodied, strange, soft and edgeless forms.'
The book blends autobiographical experience with research and will open your eyes to the everyday magic that is all around us whether we live in a city, the countryside or by the sea. it is a gentle, lovely read which evokes a sense of calm.
To sum up: A beautiful book, which even the most non-witchy readers out there will appreciate. (Pointy hat and broomstick not necessary).
Published by TWO ROADS, an imprint of John Murray Press. RRP hardback £16.99 also available as a downloadable audiobook I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. See more book reviews HERE
