![]() The Lewa Safari Marathon is taking place again this year on June 25th and it's a marvellous way for adventurers to explore one of Africa’s most spectacular protected areas. Participants will run through northern Kenya's Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, sharing trails with some of the country's most iconic and critically endangered wildlife: Grevy’s zebra, lions, elephants and giraffes. Supported by conservation charity Tusk, in partnership with Safaricom, funds raised go towards aiding Kenya’s most vulnerable communities and wildlife, from conserving black rhino populations to ensuring that Lewa’s frontline conversation, education and community projects are able to continue their critical work. This year’s marathon will be the most environmentally friendly to date, eliminating nearly 300kg of single-use plastic from the race. What's more, to help offset the event’s carbon footprint, participants have the opportunity to purchase trees that will be planted within the conservancy. The annual sporting event, regarded as one of the world's toughest marathons, has raised more than £6 million for frontline conservation, schools and healthcare initiatives across Kenya.
